I've download tuxguitar on my LinuxMint 14. At the beginning it can't play sound at all. so I search on the internet. I Found the solution on askubuntu.com : http://askubuntu.com/questions/247204/tuxguitar-doesnt-play-any-sound The main key to play sound on my LinuxMint is installing timidity-interfaces-extra (sudo apt-get install timidity-interfaces-extra) And finally it works, my tuxguitar has a sound! :) I hope this will help you if you got the same problem as mine. thanks
